Description
X-Trans CMOS 5 HR Sensor
The X-H2 from Fujinon is packed full of all the latest cutting-edge technology, offering an incredibly powerful spec in a bodyshell that remains compact and lightweight.
This technology includes the fifth generation high-resolution 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR stacked layer, back illuminated sensor with an enhanced image processing algorithm that boosts resolution without affecting the signal-to-noise ratio and results in a stunning image. This sensor also features an improved pixel structure, allowing light to be received more efficiently.
The X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor works alongside the X-Processor 5 CPU to provide support for HEIF format and Apple ProRes and reduce the overall power consumption.
This sensor controls moiré (the wavy visual effect that occurs when two similar patterns overlap) through a low-periodic colour filter, replicating a highly random arrangement of silver particles on the analogue films and efficient colour interpolation from surrounding pixels.
With the arrangement of all three RGB pixels on every line, RGB is always placed on any horizontal or vertical line to correctly interpolate colours in high-frequency images. G pixels are placed in diagonal lines to improve the accuracy of diagonal high-frequency image detection and colour interpolation.
Thanks to the sensor’s improved pixel structure which allows light to be received more efficiently, ISO 125 is now available as standard sensitivity where previously it was only available as an extended sensitivity.
1/180,000s Shutter Speed
With a maximum electronic shutter speed of 1/180,000 (an increase of 2.5 stops when compared to other iterations in the X Series), the X-H2 can be used with wide apertures in extremely bright environments, and even allows photographers to freeze the action down to the perfect millisecond for greater creative options.
160MP Pixel Shift Multi Shot
The X-H2 is the first camera in the Fujifilm X Series to feature Pixel Shift Multishot, which, with assistance from Pixel Shift Combiner software, can produce a single, ultra-high-resolution 160MP image with just the press of the shutter release.
In body stabilisation works to shift the sensor by half a pixel between each frame, with the X-H2 taking 20 frames to ensure that every red, green, and blue pixel contains the same information — resulting in stunning compositions with next to no false colours visible.
HEIF Image Format Support
The X-H2 supports the HEIF image format, delivering 10-bit image quality in files that are up to 30% smaller than standard JPEGS, achieving incredible, high-quality images straight out of the camera.
8K/30P Recording
The X-H2 doesn’t just capture beautiful still images, it can also record stunning 8K/30P video in 4:2:2 10-bit colour that can be recorded internally either to an SD card or to a Cfexpress Type B memory card.
This camera allows users to increase the focal length of any lens with its 2x digital zoom when recording 4K video and will capture up to 160 minutes of video thanks to its heat dissipating structure. (Attaching the optional cooling fan will extend the X-H2’s video recording capabilities in higher temperatures.)
4K HQ mode creates 4K video with 8K oversampling to produce a high-quality image that takes full advantage of the X-H2’s 40.2MP Sensor.
Support for Apple ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes 422 LT. ProRes 422 Proxy is also available when recording ProRes*, streamlining post-production and making editing 8K video so much easier.
*Proxy is not available when recording in 8K/30P or 8K/25P.
The X-H2 also supports F-Log and F-Log2. F-Log 2 record with an expanded dynamic range of 13+ stops*, which is wider than F-Log and significantly broadens editing possibilities when it comes to post-production.
*When recording F-Log2, based on Fujifilm internal testing.
When the X-H2 is combined with a compatible HDMI recording device from Atomos or Blackmagic Design, 12-bit RAW video output can be recorded as Apple ProRes RAW or Blackmagic RAW at up to 8K resolution and at frame rates of up to 29.97 frames per second.
Film Simulations
The X-H2 provides a selection of Film Simulation options, developed using Fujifilm’s trove of knowledge and 85+ years’ worth of colour science expertise to reproduce classic colours and tones used by Fujifilm and universally recognised by generations of photographers. These simulations include:
Subject Detection Auto Focus
Subject detection AF based on Deep Learning AI technology automatically detects and tracks subjects including animals, birds, vehicles, aeroplanes, and trains, along with human faces and eyes — allowing photographers to focus less on keeping the camera in focus and more on creating the perfect composition.
The higher pixel count increases the number of phase detection pixels, improving the focusing accuracy of the X-H2’s AF-S when framing up subjects, including landscapes and portraits. An improved AF prediction algorithm also enables stable focusing even when using the AF-C.
The X-H2’s advanced auto focus makes it perfect for tracking moving objects, harnessing the power of the X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, whilst still providing accurate results when focusing on a static object.
Digital Zoom
The X-H2’s digital zoom function uses the X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor to deliver up to 2x digital zoom with next to no loss of image resolution when capturing still images or recording 4K video — it’ll even retain incredible levels of image quality when a prime lens is attached to the camera.
In Body Image Stabilisation
Designed to allow the photographer to capture the perfect image each and every time they click the shutter release, the X-H2 features improved in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) system that offers 7.5 stops of compensation and features an enhanced algorithm to optimise motion detection.
This five-axis stabilisation system ensure handheld photography yields perfect results, producing shake-free images in a wide range of scenarios, including when panning or following subjects on foot whilst recording video.
Hi-Res EVF
Features a high-resolution electronic viewfinder (EVF) that has 0.8x magnification and utilises 5.76 million dots to provide astounding levels image detail. A refresh rate of approximately 120 frames per second makes looking through the EVF at varying angles much easier and more comfortable, suppressing image blur and distortion.
Weather Resistant
The X-H2’s 79 weather-sealed points ensure high levels of protection against moisture and dust ingress, withstanding use within adverse weather conditions and challenging environmental conditions, including scenarios in which temperatures reach as low as -10°C.
